The news that the new Corvera [Murcia] airport has recruited 500 staff, with training to start shortly, prior to next year's opening, but without, as yet, having a single confirmed carrier opertaing from it, has got me thinking.
Imagine you were someone called, for the sake of argument, Ryan O'Michael, and were the CEO of a large LoCo carrier. What inducements/operating practices would you be looking for, in order to be persuaded to start operating from a new airport? I have listed a few possibilities below - anyone have any other suggestions?
- No landing charges
- No enforced use of air-bridges
- Priority baggage handling
- €1 million p.a. advertising 'allowance' from regional government
- €1 per arriving pax incentive from local government
- 10% of all duty-free sales in return for relaxation of only one piece of hand luggage rule
- 50c per pax from bus operator/taxis servicing airport
