Cambrian Viscount reg. for April 1965
I am sure many can relate to my quest, though it would seem rather petty to a non-aviation buff, and possibly to some regular visitors here. I took my first flight on a Cambrian Airways Viscount 701, Flight CS 623 on April 21st 1965. Being 10 years old, in all the excitement I forgot to note the registration. From then on I paid attention to such things and still try and take note when the aircraft boarding method/access to manufacturers plate allows.
Anyway since that time, and particularly since the advent of the internet I have tried numerous means to try and find out the registration of my 'first' - its as significant as other life firsts believe you me! Cork airport destroyed its records some years ago. The North West Aviation Forum has failed to produce any results. I contacted the Library of Wales and after some false hopes it now appears that they dont have the records for this, despite having extensive Cambrian Airways archives in their possession.
So is there anyone out there who was a pilot for Cambrian or who may have access to the log books of former Cambrian airways pilots? As an Unaccompanied Minor a visit to the flight deck was obligatory and is engraved on my memory. The pilot (I am sure former RAF WWII stock) was delighted to show me around.
Anyway to use a cliché this is very much a long shot, but I am hoping to finally get an answer. I am sure many of you can relate. In April 1965 Cambrian operated six Viscounts G-AMOP, AMOG, AMOL, AMNZ (I returned home in this on April 28th), AMON and AMOE. Any other recollections of Cambrian or early operations into Cork would be much appreciated, forgive me if this has been covered before. I am delighted to have found this site. I work in aviation security, but still go weak at the knees at anything to do with civil aviation, but especially that of the 60s and 70s.
