Indeed, although most of the time you'll find the internet bottlenecks will rate-limit you to a few hundred meg..... so save your money and don't pay Mike ..
Here's something from a work machine that has a port on a 1Gb switch that sits on a faster network.....

Gets faster overnight when the UK is asleep, not that I would know of course !
And a 1Gb connection doesn't speed up PPRuNe either....
