I'm pretty sure it's not to do with destroying the market really, just that he doesn't want it highlighted that Sir Peter Rigby may have gone out and got (or is in the process of going out and getting) airlines and routes for his airport. Something PK and his rebranding team haven't managed. Although the new sign is quite nice.
