I understand how it happened. Given that a pitot static system can fail and give erroneous inputs (they can, this has been known for a long time) I was asking for a defense of the design decision, considering that a number of aircraft features are routed through a weight on wheels switch ... there may be a solid answer, but I've yet to see one.
