BMI Regional fly to BRU and have wet lease contracts with SN Brussels. The only direct flights to BRU from LHR are codeshare flights with SN Brussels.
Slot leasing is quite a profitable way of shoring up a company's finances, I remember Luxair used to fly into LHR at a loss from LUX. They were losing money on every flight, so they leased their slots to Ethihad for $5m per year. So given that they were losing, lets say $1m per year on the route, next financial year they could report a $6m improvement on their performance.
If BMI were to do something similar, this could placate the Lufthansa shareholders somewhat. Lufty and BMI are going to have to do something pretty spectacular to turn the amazingly poor financial figures around.
