Leaving / Rejoining SID - all types

As many different answers for as many different types would be great thanks.

Scenario -

You depart on a SID programmed into the FMS. You rotate and engage the automatics and prepare to snooze...

You then get taken of the SID for whatever reason and get given a heading to fly, (maybe due unknown traffic, weather etc etc)

ATC then want you back on the SID asap. Is a heading from ATC pointing you in the right direction easier OR does the A3xx B7xx have a magic button than can take you from heading mode direct to rejoin the SID?
I know nothing about FMS'...

Finally again for A3xx and Boeing, is it easier to fly a heading, or a track? Or no difference?
