They like to call them "commanders" but in the real world, commanders are responsible for the care and welfare and well-being and morale of their subordinates. In the real world, commanders ensure their subordinates are well fed, well rested, properly treated and properly respected.

Obviously this is not how the vast majority of "commanders" undertake their responsibilities. Our "commanders" seem to think that authority is all about selfish perks, without any responsibility for their subordinates conditions.

Real commanders in the real world ensure their subordinates receive the best possible treatment before taking their own rest, meals, time off, etc.

That's the difference between real leadership and seniority-based authority. A few know the difference, but most simply do not. Even Boy Scouts know that leaders eat and sleep only after their "troops" are taken care of....
