You are correct, the market is flooded with imitation ray's and others. ALWAYS buy from a reputable seller. As for polycarbonate being safer than glass. Well I look at it like this. If you drive a Volvo you have less chance of being seriously injured should you have an accident at than you would if you were driving say a Porsche. However which one do you really want to drive.

It is also obvious that polycarbonate lenses are less likely to damage your eyeball than a glass lense, should they shatter whilst on your face that is.
