Mate,
Two office friends of mine had laser eye surgery (both female) one because the other did. Both could see for miles afterwards and the first one (who really was relying on it to solve some eye problems) could see a fly speck at a 1000 metres but several months later couldn't see the fly at 10 metres and was back to wearing glasses. Second one is still as good as gold. I guess that sums up the risk and the choices you'll have to make....... Good luck!
