A light aviation fanatic with serious professional aviation street-cred, I don't know the fellow but it sounds like a good appointment.
Another Chris Finnigan by the sound of it, and Chris did a good job at BMAA in his 5 years or so there (and has done far more good than harm since he moved to CAA afterwards).
