In another Middle Eastern country, we often had problems with green lasers being aimed at aircraft during final approach. Crews routinely reported the problem to ATC.
The problem was largely resolved-- police took these complaints seriously and the local papers also published articles, which mentioned that perpetrators may be punished with the Death Penalty if their activities were to lead to an aircraft accident involving fatalities.
