Unfortunately it isn't. See my example about the landing glider, a few posts back. The airframe can't be the reference point for conservation of energy.

didn't say use the
aircraft airframe as the reference - use the
moving Air Mass as your inertial reference frame. I seem to remember a certain Mr. A. Einstein wrote a special paper about it.
