This is all true, but air asia is a Malaysian company so i doubt the aircraft will be with a Japanese registration, unless there are special requirements to in fact have a local registration (which wouldn' t surprise me in Japan!).
As far as commuting contracts you are absolutely right but that is true only for long haul ops (the contracts for the Q400 are actually with a sponsored visa) plus some of the foreigners can get a visa based on other conditions, the problem obviously would be more of a JCAB training provided or not. Because if the conversion isn't sponsored then of course the jobs would only be for the Japanese guys.
I guess we will see what happens..to be honest as much as I was kind of optimistic about the Peach start up, I am not as much with these last news.
