OzExpat, try giving Jeppesen (Australia) a call in Melbourne, they should be able to give you a demo "JeppView" CD Rom that covers your area. The software is on the cd to print out the charts and it is a great service.
My own experience is that Jepp approach plates for major airports that have bad terrain around them have a great feature with colour coded terrain contours.
Hobart, Canberra, Townsville and Cairns charts show you enough terrain information to make you very conscious about where you are. Think how good the Morbid ILS from Kerema onwards would look with colour coded terrain contours.
As for the USAF 737, if they had used the issuing state's document, the accident would still have happened, Jepp doesn't modify critical data, they accept and print that which the regulator provides them with.
And yes, Jepp's DME/GPS Arrival plates have a fool proof presentation, with DAPs you usually need to put little diagonal arrows to clarify "after passing, descend to" as another Pruner has already mentioned.
