I haven't heard of this mode coming into play outside of simulator training (thankfully, like total hydraulic failure it is expected to be an extremely rare occurrence), but it is indeed what you've got.
And just to be crystal clear (and not that
ANYONE has said this or even hinted it) this is NOT the control mode that AF447 found itself in. Just in case any casual observer or passerby should get the wrong impression.
