I would be very surprised if Boeing recommended (officially) a ground speed (GS) check during take-off.
This is an airmanship check. The Boeing 737 FCTM in fact does mention the subject under a section on unreliable airspeed where it states that "ground speed information is available from the FMC and on the instrument displays (as installed). These indications can be used as a cross-check".

With ground speed read-outs in full view of both pilots during take off it could be argued in court that the crew would be negligent not to use such a valuable resource if available.
