Bournemouth airports definition of a big announcement needs questioning. Last week it was free chocolates, this week the 'big' announcement was a free holiday to Ibiza. So I wouldn't be too eager to find out.
However, i do think it is the perfect time for easyJet to announce a base. Given Ryanair have just cemented their 2012 schedules. Incidentally - they have mentioned Barcelona and not Girona. Does this mean it will operate into Barcelona El Prat?
So for 2011 and possibly 2012 pax numbers look to be around 500,000 each. Big fall from the heights of 1.1m in 2007 and 2008, but not dissimilar in terms of volume to other airports. a 3 aircraft easyJet base could easily propel that to 1.4m in 2012 if they announce it quickly. and 1.4m is still only 40-45% of the capacity of the current terminal.
