TAWS or no TAWS the equipment would still need to be functioning to be effective. A/c should have been under radar control ... no night VFR allowed following the L100 accident last year. Unless that's changed since I left... Everyone thinks our work is risky out there due to the insurgents but it's the terrrain that mostly scores the hits... situational awareness... can't overstate the importance.
