I continue to believe that autotrim should disconnect along with the autopilot.
I agree. Unfortunately even the loss of stab autotrim won't return speed stability.
The aircraft has been designed to cope with the loss of B & Y Hydraulic systems (hence NO Stab trim). Despite no stabiliser movement, the elevators are powerful enough to control the aircraft from cruising speed to approach and landing. So even if the autostab trim was disabled (or the trim wheel held still by the pilots), the elevators would be repositioned automatically to maintain 1g stick free attitude stability.
