Actually, it's more devious than that ...
  • Push QANTAS over the edge so that they either go bust or have to be rescued (like Air NZ were) by the taxpayer.
  • Now flog off the "only profitable bit" - JetStar - to your mates, having sunk all its start-up costs into the mess you've made of QANTAS
  • Thus leaving the lucky Ozzie taxpayer with a trashed QANTAS Domestic and little or no International, and - best of all
  • Off we go to manage JetStar, Ka-ching!
See, this big business stuff is easy
