I have no experience with W7 but I recall that when No1 son was running an early version in his company to assess it over XP he was informed that a particular (moderately-sized) file transfer via the server would take '286 days'. I believe this issue was sorted by an OS change, but perhaps you have hit another? Has MS been asked?
