Well said Snuffelupagas. It is indeed a pity this open letter was not a true open letter and published in the media signed by all Qantas pilots.
Parabellum makes a good point. The Chairman sets the KPI's for the CEO. If he, the CEO, delivers he will get his bonus just as Geoff did. KPI's may not always be what we want to hear or see. If 'Destroy Qantas' and 'Lie to the shareholders, the public and the staff' are among AJ's KPI's he is on target for a great payout.
It is a tragedy that a former Australian of the Year is sitting on the Qantas Board providing oversight and governance for the shareholders as a true Australian icon and Internationally recognised airline spins uncontrollably in its death dive. And he is doing nothing about it - a true Australian of the Year would speak up.
It is also tragic that so many former Ansett senior managers are sitting in top QF anf JQ roles. They must know the pain of that failure. The suffering of so many great, loyal employees. A free lesson for Qantas not learnt.
AJ is the first non Australian to occupy the CEO role. A believer in conspiracy theory might suggest that the Australians deliberately did this. Or was the appontment of AJ just a straight out 'fcuk up'. A bridge too far for a little inexperience boy.
