While that is all true about the lower paid workers, I wasn't aware any pilots, engineers or whatever were hoping to send their employer to the wall. In fact, if there were a PCRuNE (Professional Cleaners Ru... etc etc) I'm sure they would be concerned that their previously successful company is now seen to be fighting for life.
I'm not an insider, but even for someone looking in it appears the major beef is that while "everything is on the table" to save money, jobs and the company - a change in management style, composition and/or salary is out of the question.
This is a national icon, everyone wants it to succeed. It's hard to ask for much more from the personnel when the management won't give an inch however.
