syseng68k has already addressed the last point. Ada was indeed included in my Software Engineering course for those that wanted to study realtime systems (class of 2001).

As to the first point, military work is one thing, where there is more likely to be use of bleeding-edge technology and the assumption of a reasonable degree of risk is acceptable. However to design a system intended for commercial operations, which could theoretically kill hundreds of taxpayers at a time if things are not done correctly (including many in first class whose families can afford extremely good lawyers) is an entirely different ballgame.
