Probably depends on your own nationality to some extent. Plus your expectations.
As a well travelled Brit, in my experience it really comes down to the individual crew on the day. I've had good and bad experiences on airlines in the US, Europe, M. East and Asia.
For me though, I'm afraid the overall standard of service of European and Asian carriers is well ahead of the North American ones. They do seem to achieve so much more in the time available. And IMNSHO they're better looking
