FWA paints a very nice picture of Oklahoma - in general - and of Norman where the school is located.
Since I live just down the road a ways I have had ocasion to spend some time in the central Oklahoma area and will offer a different perspective on the attractions.
First - you will definitly need motorized transportation such as a car or motorcycle. This area is NOT a "walking" area to live in.
Second - there is a very popular - and well attended "aero" club in the area, so there will be others with the same interests as yours.
now for the "bad" parts: activities to participate in - -
watching for tornados
watching for hail storms with hail size of oranges (true)
washing the red clay dirt off of your vehical every 3 days
watching for tornados
watching people wreck their vehicals when it snows
other than that it is a nice redneck sort of place.
