I reckon the fact there's a BA codeshare on the Heathrow flight and a KLM codeshare on the Amsterdam flight plays a big part there. Try to book a connection on the Air France website and it isn't there. You have to book a travel agent.
In fact, if you try to book on Air France, there's a good chance they'll send you from CDG via AMS.
