If you don't plan to arrange new insurance in the Netherlands then strongly suggest you do discuss what you do plan to do with your current insurance company/broker.

If you had a prang in Amsterdam and the underwriter didn't even know you were there he/she may invoke 'non declaration of essential information' and refuse a claim - your present policy will proably have some conditions in the small print about 'uses abroad for other than on holiday' etc.

If you are making a major change in exposure, (in the eyes of the underwriter), in terms of location and therefore risk, (rural UK to, say, Amsterdam for example), you may be required to pay an additional premium for the period that you have the car in the Netherlands.

As already said, suggest you talk to your insurance company/broker as anecdotal stuff from others who may be driving in Europe on UK insurance may not be relevant to you/your current policy.
