World Atlas For Laptop

Can anyone recommend a very detailed web-based World Atlas that could rival anything available on DVD/CD-ROM? Detail is the one thing that is somewhat lacking in sites investigated to date.

Although this is my first preference, if all else fails I would not be adverse to the DVD/CD route if likewise any recommendations.
