Wish to be a licenced engineer

Hi everyone hope some one can give me some advice. I took and passed an OND in aerospace engineering about 25yrs ago at Southall college of technology [dont think its there anymore] but wasn't able to get a job in aircraft maintenance at that time so moved on to another job which ive been doing ever since but the bug to get an aircraft maintenance licence has never left me.
Now to my question, is there any distance learning courses available that i could do to refresh and update all the theory knowledge and [i know this is a long shot] do sometimes maintenance companies allow people like me to work with their engineers to build up their skills and knowledge. I'd be quite happy to work for free as and when i could fit it around my current work/family life. Im only about 5mins away from norwich airport and i believe KLM have a big maintenace base there.
Anyway thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
