Madbob - Takes me back to the old days, and the amazing comedy act that was Donaldson and Donne (Michael, of the FT).

While Teddy's mannerisms always put me in mind of Basil Brush, Donne was a booming-voiced 6-foot-5 who could have starred as the butler in any Hammer film of the era.

Favourite Teddy story, told (typically) against himself...

Donaldson mooring his boat on the Hamble, ties up alongside other boat. Sociable chap that he is, he's soon talking to the neighbour, who turns out to be a traveller in aluminium tubing for BOAC.

No last names have been exchanged, but the BOAC four-ringer finally says:

"You seem to know a lot about aviation".

"Oh, I work for the Daily Telegraph", says Teddy.

The other guy leans forward, drops his voice into a confidential tone..

"Really? Do you know that c**t Donaldson?"
