Lake Eyre

Thanks Jaba!

ABX: Lake Eyre is at approx 75% capacity at the moment and filling! The western creeks and rivers (Neales and Peake) have also been contributing to the lake this year feeding the most water since 1989. More is on the way from the west after 135mm fell this weekend around Oodnadatta! The floodwater around Bedourie is amazing and the Eyre Creek and Diamantina are swollen! Birdsville is OUT OF AVGAS for anyone thinking of going in there and all roads are cutoff, not expected to be open for roughly another 3 weeks. This water is starting to flow into the Goyder Lagoon area now and although its hard to tell exactly, will still probably be a 4-6 weeks before entering the Lake. Kalamurina Station have 2 massive levy banks between them and the Warburton River but Mark is in the process of moving a make-shift house and as much as possible up onto their highest sandhill. Yesterday the Cooper Creek was reading 5.7metres over the causeway at Innaminka (and all the septics were overflowing into the hotel ). This water is slowly heading down towards the Birdsville Track although the punt is not yet in use again. Maintenance is being done on the punt in the anticipation of launching again soon! Lake Eyre South is completely full and sitting at a depth of around 2.5metres. Rumours are rife that the Lake will reach 1974 status, but time will tell! Hope this helps...will post photos soon!
