The most important is to have the correct IAS and rate of descent. Beforehand pilots have to feel their aircraft, really. You may just gently reduce PLs to Flight Idle until you touchdown. Bear in mind that the flight manuals are just theory, they are a guide, but there is often a little gap between theory and practice, especially when we talk about flying.
