IO of course it is worth every penny, and I agree, the key to FLYING, is to ensure that the pennies stretch to cover everything.

You mention the IR, then you have to ensure once you have it that the kit in the aircraft is up to the job, and then you have to fly the hours to ensure competancy and recency, and so it goes on.

As you are aware, what gets my goat is paying for maintenance when of course it does not get done- now thats another thread somewhere - well done
