CASA and the Senate

I have just had the opportunity to read the submissions [ Parliament of Australia: Senate: Committees: Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport: Inquiry into the Administration of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and related matters ] to the Senate inquiry in mid 2008, which makes for interesting reading. The report is found at: http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committ...ort/report.pdf

The terms of reference were:
Inquiry into the Administration of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and related matters - Terms of Reference On 29 May 2008, the Senate Standing Committee on Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport resolved, under Standing Order 25(2)(b), to conduct a formal inquiry into the administration of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and related matters. The proposed reporting date is 9 July 2008.
Noting the Government's announced intention to release a National Aviation Policy Green Paper in the latter half of 2008 and the importance of maintaining Australia's strong aviation safety record, the committee will conduct an inquiry into the administration of CASA and related matters:
  • to assess the effectiveness of administrative reforms undertaken by CASA's management since 2003;
  • to examine the effectiveness of CASA's governance structure; and
  • to consider ways to strengthen CASA's relations with industry and ensure CASA meets community expectations of a firm safety regulator.
The report does not delve as deeply as it should into CASA
