WHBM, I agree. But searching National Express for 18 August gives me only one choice departing T5 at 08:55 and arriving at Southampton Cruise Terminal at 14:30. 5 hours 35 minutes. Ridiculous? You betcha. But I didn't say it, the bus company said it. It involves travel via T2/3 and Victoria with a 1 1/2 hour wait there.
Travelling from Waterloo doesn't do it for me either as connections to there from Heathrow are less than ideal.
This is why I appealed to more knowledgeable PPRuners for their assistance and advice.
But thank you for your kind input.
Edited to add - I've now searched for Heathrow to Southampton Coach Station (silly me) and found service every 2 hours or so which takes 1h45 minutes. GBP16 per person.
