lessons to be learned from history
Practically every single airline that has ever touched bournemouth, for whatever reason, has failed. no routes have really stuck at bournemouth except for spain and the canaries. This makes complete sense. If you look at the aging wealthy population of bournemouth in detail the traffic volumes exist but only for portugal, spain, canaries and balearics and only outbound. Plus some potential for development of the long-haul cruise market which currently is under developed at bournemouth. There are historical links, and ties with the spanish med. As soon as people accept this and stop farting about with trying domestics, amsterdam, paris and brussels - the better. As for predicted new routes, they should take history into account. I would consider the following realistic:
Monarch - malaga daily, Gibralter 2 weekly, Cancun 1 weekly
easyjet - funchal 2 or 3 weekly, lisbon 3 weekly
ryanair - seville 3 weekly, almeria 2 weekly summer only, Jerez 2 weekly
Thomas cook - barbados 1 weekly winter only, orlando 1 wkly summer only
Thomson - Bermuda 1 weekly, Bahamas 1 weekly, fort lauderdale 1 weekly
