CX888 from Vancouver to New York turns back to Vancouver twice (bad smell onboard)
Flight from Vancouver to New York makes two emergency landings
A Cathay Pacific flight bound for New York made two emergency landings in Vancouver Saturday night following reports of a strange smell in the cabin.
Flight CX888 from Vancouver to New York turned around just 10 minutes into the flight after a smell was detected on board, Jennifer Pearson, a spokeswoman for the airline, said Sunday.
It departed again at 12:28 a.m. but turned around yet again after the smell returned. Passengers were put in hotels for the night and were being put on other flights to New York.
A spokeswoman for Vancouver International Airport said the flight landed for the second time just after 1 a.m. Sunday. Emergency crews attended but found no problems with the airline.
Pearson said Cathay Pacific’s engineering team is co-operating with authorities and trying to determine the cause of the smell.
