Help save some aviation heritage - Urgent.

RAF Oakington, near Cambridge is going to be re-developed. In otherwords, everything is going to be bulldozed and a 10,000 home new town is going to be built on the site. Many of the buildings are in good condition and the local historic society is pettitoning for a group of eight of them to be saved to be used as a business park - for which they will be eminently suitable and providing employment as well as preserving some history.

Oakington was built in 1939 and was crucial in the Bomber Command campaign as a Pathfinder staion. The motives for saving the buildings are not just commercial, the society want some of the airfield preserved to remind people of the sacrifice made by so many to preserve freedom. One of the buildings will become a museum and they also want the council to name streets after some of the 800 or so aircrew who didn't return to Oakington - one a relative of mine.

If you think this is important, please give two minutes and click on

and sign the petition. It closes on the 14th, so please don't delay.

Many thanks.

Dan.
