Simultaneously, start R&D for the Mark 2, with more British kit, get another 10 into service, then refit the Mk 1s to Mk 2 standard. Three squadrons plus the OCU for less than the cost of 9 Nimrods.
Except, as I understand it, the Nimrods have already been paid for. This must be what they meant by 'cost +' contracting.
