I've been in a similar situation but what got me out of it was remembering that I'm
never alone up there while I've got access to 121.50 for a fix on my position! My instructor drummed this into me from the very first Nav lesson, and these guys at the other end are great - very calm and collected, and they know what you're going through if you've had to call them. Just knowing they are there takes a huge weight off.
What's the worst thing that can happen if you go through this again - a bit of embarassement admitting you might be lost?
