This does seem to be an on-going point of debate to be honest i think it will rumble on for a good while yet, i travel semi frequently to belgium and dublin with work and to be fair there isnt much that cant wait the hour or 30 mins im in the air so my laptop/ netbook stay firmly encased in the overhead locker, as for ipods/ phones my outlook is that if i am told i cant then there must be a reason why, if there is evidence there is a possibility of interference even though there are no accidents that can be attributed isnt it better to be pro active rather than reactive so to minimise any risk however small. Alot of air incidents seem to begin with something that would be considered of little risk on its own but when conbined with other things happening the risk is multiplied. So for the forseable future i will continue to listen to the people whos job it is to ensure my safety
