Got the new hdd installed, with XP (that turned out to be only 120gb not 250 !!) oh well it was free and is still more than what I've had so it will do for now.
I've moved the jumpers on the old drive, so now when it boots up, it can be found and shows up on my computer.
However when I right click on it and go to properties, it shows as 0GB capacity, 0GB free and 0 GB in use and if I try and double click on it, it keeps telling me I need to format it - which really will lose all my data.
Is there something else I need to do, or is it simply a case of the drive is
and I've lost all my stuff ?.
