Q. used them for many years on the B747-338s. Access was via the fwd galley through a trapdoor in the floor. There was another escape door which I think exited into an aisle. The container was loaded via the cargo compartment and the entire crew rest was built inside a double width container. They were loaded ex BKK and SIN for European trips and included aircon adjustments, lighting and fire detection/alarm.The fire alarm was part of the aircraft fire warning system with an annunciator and warning on the F/Deck.
Later when they were not needed due to the B747-400s taking those routes, they were used for engineering spares and workshop on Hajj charters. This allowed a full set of manuals, spares, tools and a bunk to be carried and secured on the ground during down time.
They were reasonably popular with the CC as they had full bunks which were a lot better than the previous chairs.
