Hi there,

Under JAA/EASA rules you can fly the AN-2 on your SEP class rating, as its MTOW is < 5700 kg. No type rating required AFAIK. You do need a tailwheel endorsement though (and permission from the operator, and from the insurance, and need big pockets to pay for the fuel, and so on...)
All very true, at the time and place I did my rating, that country was not EASA thankfully, otherwise this would have been a dream never to come true.

Even then, the AN2 was covered in my Swiss CPL, but the good folks there insisted on a full type rating under their law of the land. I got it hanging on my wall in my office to this day and it's not going anywhere

And they were quite right, this is after all not a Cherokee, but in their view (rightly so) a multi crew plane (1 pilot, one mechanic as minimum crew). I would not want to fly one single handed, too much work.

Plenty for sale on, e.g., planecheck. Quite cheap to acquire even (but I don't want to think about the fuel and maintenance costs).
I could buy "my" old training bird for no money these days, they are all shacked up as there was no way to operate them like in the old days. For sale to be operated outside Europe, that's what the ticket sais. And re cost, would you believe that when I did my original rating I rented one of these babies for $180/hour wet including the instructor? Yep, those were the days my friends..... not ten years ago.... Still, one of the best experiences of my flying life.

Mind, that country had a quite large fleet of cargo planes operating under it's flag, with several hundred pilots e.t.c. employed... all gone too, not a year after they joined the EU. And they pay dearly for the electricity they used to export as the "closing deal" included shutting down their life support in the form of 3 reactors which were working as Swiss clockworks but were no-no to the Eurocratic invaders.
