With regard to "ROT", all instructions must be understood with reference to YOUR position. A "LEFT" command means that you have to mentally tip the cube on its left face, that's to say to make it roll towards the left side of your screen. Never turn the cube around its axis !
Regarding "VMC", I think you work the right way. Your results are already fairly good and should keep improving with training.
