I guess fatbus is correct in the above post!
The day they can get enough 1000 hours type rated pilots is the day that the requirement will become "1000 HOUR ON TYPE".
With the number of CPL pilots growing every day, I believe that, in a near future, we'll have an airline asking for blue eyed pilots only, or any other stupid requirement of this kind...
Now more seriously, 500 hours (at least) on type helps you a lot. Altough you're still not the best pilot in the world, many stages of your learning process have been achieved with 500 hours.
