Studies show that there is a peak in the accident scale in around 200 to 400 hours on type pilots, that might be a sensible why.
Or, there are enough pilots with at least 500 hrs on type and therefore the requirement.
Or sometimes the insurance is way cheaper for guys with at least 500 hrs on type, but its all about how many qualified guys there are looking for jobs.
