The ACARS applications on the 737 FMC are customized software which can be rewritten by the operator. Dunno if the core functions such as buffer control are accessible and if they are the same across different fleets.
We do have a detailed ACARS manual, however that is only describing our specific application suite. And the same as those applications it changes every few months, usually 4 to 6 times a year.
